Don’t Get Stuck in Your Freelancing Comfort Zone

The great thing about working online is you do not have to leave your comfort zone. If you are only comfortable doing one type of thing (mine being writing), then that’s all you have to do. As I’ve become more familiar with working online, I have learned that it is also very important to take chances and go outside your comfort zone; although it’s not a requirement.

Not only will leaving your typically worked jobs from time to time help you learn, but it will help you grow as an individual. The internet is a great place and the more you branch out of your shell, the more you are going to learn along the way.

I can’t tell you how many times I have run into situations where I wasn’t sure if I should take a job or not. The thought of writing about a certain topic (specifically on forums, where you really have to put a lot of time and effort into ‘becoming’ a character who knows a lot about the topic of the forum; when you sometimes know literally nothing on the subject) made me extremely nervous but I wanted the challenge so I got on board. Because of these seemingly simple actions, I have met some amazing people along the way who have taught me some amazing things.

Throughout my time online, I have met people from all around the world and different walks of life. There are some people who can barely speak English and our communication can be a bit tricky but they have taught me about marketing, promoting myself, how much my work is worth and much more.

Without taking those chances, and branching out to meet people like this, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I wouldn’t have all the notes I have currently accumulated on my computer, telling me how to do this or how to do that.

At t he end of the day, I prefer to stick with writing topics I am at least semi-familiar with but it’s nice to be able to talk to potential clients and tell them about all the other things I’ve done. I truly have gotten to a point in my life where I can literally write an article about anything that’s thrown my way. If you would have told me I was going to say that one day back when I first started doing this, I would have thought you were crazy.

It still amazes me that something as ‘simple’ as working online can teach a person so much and completely alter someone’s life. I have taken so many chances, and there have been wrong turns along the way but they have led me to where I am today and I can honestly say; I love what I do!
